Under the relevant agreement between the Jagiellonian University (JU) and Warsaw University, JU undergraduate and doctoral students holding an official attestation concerning their moderate or severe disability can use the Digital Academic Library (or "ABC" for short, a Polish acronym) free of charge.
The offer responds to the needs of those whose disability considerably impedes their access to the Jagiellonian Library collections or makes it impossible for them to use them in the standard form.
The ABC offers more than twelve thousand books from various fields of knowledge adapted to the needs of blind and partially sighted persons. The accessible volumes can be downloaded online mainly in text format.
The Library is the result of the project called Education, Disability, Information, and Technology: Removing Access Barriers for Persons with Disabilities in Education co-funded by the European Union from the European Social Fund under the Human Capital Operational Programme. IT staff from the JU Disability Support Service have contributed to the creation of the library. Currently, the Jagiellonian University earmarks funds on an annual basis to maintain the library resources so that the students can enjoy continuous access to the educational materials stored in there.
To use the library, just express this need and present a valid disability-degree certificate during a meeting with an educational adviser. Then register at www.abc.uw.edu.pl and wait for the verification of your account by one of our staff members. The positive account verification will be communicated to you by email.
You are most welcome to use the ABC Library collection as well as the offer of education material adaptation in the Jagiellonian University's original programme called "Hamlet".
