Dean's leave

When experiencing health deterioration, students may apply for a dean’s leave within the possibilities offered by the Rules and Regulations on Studies at the JU. The following options are available:

a) dean’s leave, when the student's health circumstances make it impossible for him/her to fulfil his/her academic obligations. The total period of leave may not exceed four semesters.

b) dean’s leave with the right to follow selected courses, i.e. dean’s leave for a period not exceeding four semesters with the right to attend selected courses that are part of the curriculum and complete some of them under conditions defined by the authorities of the faculty or institute. Students may apply for a dean’s leave with the right to follow selected courses when their current health circumstances make it significantly difficult for him/her to fulfil his/her academic obligations but/and do not prevent them from studying when the volume of obligations is reduced. In such a situation, it is also possible to apply for educational process adaptation(s).
Under the Rules and Regulations on Studies currently in force, students who apply for a dean’s leave with the right to follow selected courses are obliged to present an attestation that there are no contraindications as to their attending course meetings and taking examinations and partial tests (Article 34(3)).

The medical documentation to be presented in order to be eligible for applying for a dean’s leave should include information that makes it possible to determine which type of leave is best, given the health circumstances at a given time, and for what period it should be granted.

The leave shall be granted once there is a ground necessitating the need to take it. A dean’s leave may not be granted for a past period or during the examination period, unless the ground justifying the granting of the leave originated at an earlier date. A leave for a past period shall be granted exclusively when due to the student’s ill health it was impossible for them to regulate the formalities concerning the studies, including taking the leave at an earlier date, and the medical documentation confirms the fact.
