About the activities of DSS (Polish Sign Language)

The JU’s Disability Support Service (DSS) acts as an educational support centre at the Jagiellonian University. It offers extensive educational support to students with various disabilities and health difficulties. It consists in reasonable accommodation of the course of study as well as adjustments ensuring equal opportunities in access to university education.

The JU DSS has innovative multimedia and equipment computer hardware to support the educational process. Its team has at its disposal a modern Braille printer, an embosser for tactile graphics and specialised software enabling learning for people with disabilities.

Our offer for students with disabilities:

  • organisation of courses and exams in an adapted format
  • consultations regarding the students’ current academic situation and selection of the best educational strategy given their present needs determined by their health
  • cooperation with lecturers - preparation of individual educational support strategies
  • adjustment of teaching materials to electronic or Braille format
  • English language classes for deaf, hard of hearing, blind and partially sighted students conducted in a multimedia laboratory (currently the classes take place remotely)
  • training and consulting in modern technological solutions supporting the learning process
  • additional material assistance - a bursary for students with disabilities (holding a disability certificate).
